|Wetzelland Motorcycle Rally Review
A Rally coming up in July, that we have attended several times, is the Wetzel
MC Rally - Wetzelland in Van Wert, Ohio, July 29th - 31st, 2011. The
rally is the same weekend every year, the last weekend in July. This year
the headline band is Lynyrd Skynyrd, playing Saturday night, July 30th.
Wetzelland consistantly brings in big names from years past. A couple
bands we have seen at Wetzelland in recent years are; Pat Travers &
Blackfoot. They have bands playing nearly non-stop.
This year in addition to Lynyrd Skynyrd, the line up includes Little Texas,
69 Band, Burnt River Band, and The Dogz.
Admission to get in is $40 per person for Friday to Sunday. Regardless of
how many days you are there, the admission is still $40 ($60 for Thursday -
Sunday). Tent camping is free and of course, motorcycle parking is free.
We have never stayed the whole weekend and have paid the $40 admission
every time but still feel like we get our moneys worth.
Like I already stated, the bands are playing nearly non-stop. Each
admission always includes entry in the Harley-Davidson motorcycle
give-away. According to the website, the bike to win this year is a 2011
Harley Davidson FLHR Road King. I notice this year will have a second
place prize too, $3,000 vacation pkg. AND when you arrive they will also
give you a cup and a trash bag. We thought that was a pretty good idea,
how can you leave a mess when they HAND you your own garbage bag.
We always thought the cup was just a free souvenir. It took a couple years
for us to discover if you bring your cup to the pop tent, you get fountain pop
So with the music, the drawing, the free pop, and hundred's of motorcycles,
the cost was not to hard to deal with. The party is great. I wouldn't
recommend Wetzelland to anyone who may be a little uptight, however. You
should expect to see a lot of skin, and most of the attendees are there with
one goal in mind, to have a damn good time.
The camping is first come first serve; whereever you can fit your tent, you
can put it up, staying out of the traffic lanes of course. They tease that
Wetzelland is WET - ZELLAND, because the odds that it will rain are pretty
great. The traffic lanes, just large enough for a couple of motorcycles to
pass, are dirt which become mud with the rain. It has rained every time we
happened to go but that never dampened anybody's spirits, the party
always went on.
They have usual biker party events and a lot of vendors. There are Rodeo
Games - Bike Show - Tattoo Contest - New & Used parts - Food - Leather -
Pond - Showers. You are free to swim in the pond, which is shaped like the
Harley-Davidson Bar & Shield, pretty cool. The last year we were there they
had jumpers parachuting in on Sunday morning.
The rally is located on club property out in the middle of the country. It is a
fenced off area but plenty of room. It looks like they draw in thousands (not
hundreds) but I honestly don't know the actual numbers.
It is a good time, plenty to do, good music and most important, a lot of bikes.
We met people from several different states, so it is bringing in some
travelers. The club members do a real good job with security, if there are
any problems we haven't witnessed any. I would recommend this rally BUT I
would only recommend this rally IF you have an open mind and are ready to
see just about ANYTHING. This is an Adult Rally and you must be 21
with your ID to get in.
I have some pictures in the side bar from our personal visits and a picture
from the Wetzel MC website of the pond and large crowd, check out more
pictures from the picture gallery on the Wetzel MC website,
